I just came across printmaker Ian Phillips and am in awe. Look at how he is using gradients in the block. The right half of the print is atmospheric while the stones are hard and heavy. The two stones on the beach are just enough to draw the eye back into the composition. He gives a terrific linocut tutitorial on his website where I learned quite a bit. If I had a millions dollars, I would purchase a print, but I don't. So, I will have to admire from afar.
